CFexpress Type B card hire

CFexpress Type B is the most widely adopted CFexpress format. It uses two PCIe lanes — twice the width of Type A — giving speeds up to around 2,000MB/s on earlier cards, and up to 3,700MB/s on the newest CFexpress v4 cards we stock.

Type B shares its physical shape with the older XQD format, and many XQD cameras gained Type B support through firmware updates — but the cards themselves are not interchangeable with Type A.

Type B slots appear across cinema and professional stills cameras, including:

• Canon EOS R5, R5 C, R3 and C400 — for 8K RAW and high-bitrate video
• Nikon Z9, Z8 and D6 — Type B replaced XQD in Nikon's flagship bodies
• Panasonic Lumix S1H and GH6 — for ProRes and high-frame-rate recording
• Blackmagic and RED cameras — via Type B media slots and recorders

Not sure which card your camera takes? Tell us the model and we'll confirm before you book.

High-bitrate RAW and 8K recording can fill cards fast — 8K RAW on the Canon R5 C can exceed 2,000Mbps, which is over 15GB per minute. For those formats we recommend the 1TB and 2TB cards, and the 3,700MB/s v4 cards when you need the fastest possible offload at the end of the day.

Our Type B range runs from 512GB up to 2TB, at 1,785MB/s or 3,700MB/s — hire a single card or a full set for every camera on the job.

Tell us your camera, shoot dates and how much media you need. We'll confirm the right cards, send a quote, and ship them to you — next day delivery is available across the UK. Shooting Sony? See our CFexpress Type A hire page, or read the full CFexpress guide.
